MUSTARD SEED MUSIC
Mustard Variations, Mustard Seeds, Wood, Glass, Ink,

Mustard seeds (senecio negro) are scattered randomly into prepared trays, the glass lids etched with musical staves. Seen through the glass, the positions and forms of the growing seeds are drawn onto manuscript music sheets, later interpreted as musical compositions. These notations were first interpreted in a live piano performance by Jane Gardner, composer and pianist at TotalKunst Nacht, Forest, Edinburgh, August 2004. See short animated film for more details.
